Supercritical water injection in a single cylinder research engine: a PIV study

Abstract This work presents the experimental results of a fluid dynamic investigation to characterize injection supercritical water in combustion chamber an internal engine. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) analysis is carried out optically accessible 2-stroke Diesel A prechamber, equipped with two optical accesses connected main cylinder through tangential duct so that piston stroke induces swirled motion field angular velocities typical light duty engines for automotive application. The engine system production and water, possibility independently regulate pressure, temperature, duration, timing. Tests have then been under different operating conditions evaluate impact dynamics on spray. First, airflow velocity has characterized at crank train angles. spray macroscopically temperature 300°C pressure 30Mpa.
